On this site, we would like to present the Maine Coon cats in our Cattery.
For our breeding, we tried to find, Maine Coon cats of the old lines to conserve the "extreme" look and the type of "old" ones.
The Maine Coon cat, or American Forest Cat, is a house and utility cat. Actually, todays Maine Coons are living in thge house as pets. In the U.S. state of Maine, the american forest cat is the nation cat.
The Maine Coon is one of the so-called semi-long hair cats. Because they are very affectionate, the Maine Coon also called "dog cat".
Before the Maine Coon was recognized as a separate race, it was called Gentle Giant, Maine Shag, Mainies, Maine Cat, or Shaggies.
What makes the Maine Coon?
All Maine Coon standards point out that the Maine Coon is a working cat ( "use cat").
The Maine Coon is semi long haired cat, medium-sized and is characterized by their height, rectangular appearance, and its bone structure. Many color combinations are permitted, but the color is less important than size, type and fur quality.
The Maine Coon comes from a working house cat from a rural area. This is evident in the muscular appearance, in their characteristic weather coat and the fact that the Maine Coon is a vigilant, capable hunter.
The cats are large, have a long streched body and a long, bushy tail. taken to the front, it should reach the shoulder. :)
The head is slightly longer than wide. The muzzle is wide and long. The chin is massive.
The eyes are far apart! Not like the Exibitioncats in Germany.
The ears are big and wide at the base, they are placed on the head, in contrast to the Norwegian Forest Cats .
Lynx brushes are desirable but not necessary. Hairs in the ears shall protect from the cold.
The cats have a water-repellent, long and dense coat.
Between the toes protrude hair, also known as "snow shoes", which helps to walk in deep snow.
A Maine Coon is full grown with about 4 years. It is the heaviest and largest domestic cat in the world.
An adult Maine Coon cat could be nose to tail tip up to 1.20 meters long and weight even up to 24 pounds and more.
averaged weight of potent Maine Coon male is 12 to 16 pounds, females 9 to 12 pounds.
The Maine Coon have very delicate voice and they're talking almost the whole day.
Maine Coon are clever animals, some of them take their food with the paws before they eat "out of hands".
In our opinion, some Maine Coon breeders and some exhibitions are going over the top in i nterpret the standard of the race.
In a phrase such as: tail at least as long as the back is not meant 2 meters will be very best! This also applies to the size of the ears!
